Literature
A collection of works giving insight into Helmut Newton's photographic work.
Naturally, he did not become a star overnight in Paris. 'Before I landed up at the legendary luxury mag Vogue I had to knock on a lot of doors. We lived in holes, smoked like chimneys, drank the disgusting Vin de Postillon for one franc the litre and hung around in bars night after night.' Helmut Newton today reminisces. Despite all this, the two of them had a great time as they say, because according to Newton 'Glamour has nothing to do with money'. But both of these did turn up. Just at the right time when he thought of something new for his fashion photos: sex!

With his innovative, sensuous aesthetics, he revolutionised fashion photography. He no longer pictured his models in the studio, but in stylised everyday surroundings. His photographs caused a sensation and created scandals at regular intervals.

By the seventies at the latest, his contributions to Vogue, Elle, Marie-Claire, American Playboy, Nova, Queen and Stern set the tune for style.   What fascinated him in fashion was the fact that he could design his photos in minute detail: 'Each photo should look like a frame from a film'. Helmut Newton conquered the fashion world with this new and unique approach.
